The address format of The Netherlands

In this column we provide answers to frequently asked questions concerning international addressing. This issue covers the address format of The Netherlands.

Dutch addresses are structured as follows:

Name
Street Premise-number
POSTAL-CODE  LOCALITY-NAME
COUNTRY

Please note, that the postal code as well as the locality name have to be written in capital letters. Additionally, there should be two spaces between the postal code and the locality name.

Very important is the structure of the postal code which is comprised of 4 numerals and 2 letters. During the input many errors occur, because the two letters are attributed to the locality name. Here are some examples of correct Dutch addresses:

Jan Jannsen
Aakstraat 1
1034 BJ  AMSTERDAM
THE NETHERLANDS

PTT Post International
Postbus 1992
2130 GC  HOOFDDORP
THE NETHERLANDS

"Postbus" is the Dutch name for PO Box.

This address format is supported by all AddressDoctor™ products.
